Timelines of film titles: 8 Mile

8 Mile was released in 2002 and stars Eminem and Brittany Murphy. Below is a timeline of the titles as they appear in the opening sequence. The opening sequence of this film is fairly long, lasting roughly 3 minutes. Studying the titles in this opening sequence will aid the production of our film as it will help us with chosen the order in which they appear in our video. The actors names appear in a fairly standard order - the biggest star in the film, Eminem, has his name on the screen before any of the other characters. Additionally, the directors name appears last, which is common in many opening title sequences. However, the crew credits appear with the least prestigious roles building up to the most prestigious - the opposite to how the cast titles are shown.

The titles in the movie are accompanied by moving images, which is common in high budget films such as this one. For our film, a moving image title sequence would be the best, but one which contains still images could also be effective. Finally, there is a soundtrack behind the titles and very little diegetic sound - it is the moving images which put the titles into context, with very little use of dialogue in order to aid explanation.
